The department inspires the students to learn and develop an integrated approach of combining creativity, technology and humanity for visualising future possibilities of sustainable living scenarios. With an observation on growing complexity in the changing scenarios of social and technological domains of consumption and production systems, the department nurtures a culture of experimentation in the areas of user-centred design thinking, application of traditional and emerging technologies in design-based case studies, social responsibility in systemic approach and materiality in practical usage with an intense engagement of the students.
Through practice-based learning, students initiate a dialogue between rationality and viability of design solutions in the form of physical, digital and spatial experiences.
The faculties and students concentrate their studies majorly on Animation and Graphic based Design at the one hand, which creates opportunities to work in Poster design, Advertising, Branding, User Interaction and Experience, Motion Graphics and 2D/ 3D Animation movies etc. of Communication Systems.
On the other hand, other group of faculties and students explore the possibility of materiality in the physical world through user sensitive Product Design, Service Design and Systemic Design.
There is always an emphasis on integrating traditional and emerging Technologies with Social Sciences to deliver physical, digital and spatial experiences at micro, meso and macro levels of Human-activity systems.
The design pedagogy deals with studio as well as practice based learning. Students go through both theoretical study and workshop practice. It can be both individual as well as group based learning.
Different types of experimental and demonstration works are carried out for an experiential learning.
Students use different types of manufacturing facilities to demonstrate their ideas.
They need to field study for finding the problems as well as validate the solutions.
Industrial experts continuously deliver their experiences to the students through guest lectures, workshops and feedback in presentations and exams.
Students can do their industry supported projects in the final semester as well as whenever required.
